Dunn Energy is proud to be a part of this community; we also feel it is vital to educate our members about the electric business. We also believe our future lies in the hands of the younger generation. It is with this thought that we help host and participate in many youth-based educational events.
We send high school juniors and seniors to a Youth Leadership Congress each year to help educate them on what it means to be a part of a cooperative. The purpose of this conference is to introduce the business structure of cooperative business; Examine the scope of electric cooperatives and how they affect everyday life; Demonstrate the power and value of cooperation;Help identify and develop leadership skills; Provide a forum for teenagers to discuss issues and solutions important to them; Meet and learn to work with people from our state; Provide an opportunity for students to experience college life. Students will also have the opportunity to earn scholarship money through an essay contest and earn an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. if they run and are appointed to the Youth Board.
Who should attend?
You should attend if you are a high school student and will be a junior or senior during the upcoming school year school year and are available typically the third week of July. Applicants must be students living in a Dunn Energy Cooperative member household.
Application Deadline: Typically the middle of June. Watch for dates in the Energy News magazine!
Contact Jolene Neisius at the Dunn Energy Cooperative office at 232-6240 for an application. Dunn Energy Cooperative will pay for entry fee and transportation costs. Entry fee includes meals and boarding in the UWRF dormitories.
Each year Dunn Energy awards local high school students from our membership educational scholarships, to promote advanced education. We firmly believe our future lies within these young leaders.The scholarship applications are available at your child’s guidance counselor’s office. The Discovery Channel School and Touchstone Energy Cooperatives bring you 'Get Charged! Electricity and You'. Energize your electricity unit with this comprehensive classroom kit. We can also talk with you or your organization about energy efficiency, safety, or careers in the electric industry. We offer free a Hotline demonstration for groups of school age children to promote electrical safety. Our linemen set up a small scale live electric line and show children the dangers of playing near powerlines. From kite strings to tree branches, our linemen will help your children learn to stay safe around electricity. If you are interested in this, please call our office at 715-232-6240 to set it up.
